Kael Jex, a 10th-grader at Big Bear High, won the boys small school sophomore 1.83-mile race in 9:16.2 at the Fastback Invitational at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. Jex also prevailed last year in his high school debut at the Fastback Invitational. The course consisted of two Valley loops, running up Switchbacks, then down National Guard Alley, followed by a right turn up the airstrip and another right turn into the gauntlet.
